There will be an estimated 76.9 million broadband households in North America by 2008, according to a new report by eMarketer. Broadband households will grow at a compound annual rate of 19.14% between 2004 and 2008, eMarketer estimates. Broadband penetration of all households is expected to grow to 56.3% in 2008, up from 23.1% in 2003.
The availability of broadband Internet service is important to e-merchants because broadband users shop and buy more often online than dial-up users.
The broadband market is moving beyond high-speed Internet access to voice and video a market worth nearly ten times the value of the Internet access business alone, according to Ben Macklin, eMarketer senior analyst and author of the report.
