BestBuy.com leads computers and electronics category in unique visitors

BestBuy.com continues to attract more U.S. visitors at home or at work than any other site in the computers and consumer electronics category, but traffic is growing at a faster rate for runner-up CircuitCity.com, according to Nielsen/NetRatings.

17.3 million shoppers came to the BestBuy.com site in December, an increase of 34% over December of the previous year. CircuitCity.com took the No. 2 spot by posting a growth rate of 41% year-over-year to reach a monthly total of 10.21 million. They were followed by eBay Electronics with 8.83 million visitors and eBay Computers with 5.47 million visitors. EBay figures for the previous year were not available because of a change in the way Nielsen tracks sites in the category. Next came Sony Electronics (SonyStyle.com) with 4.9 million shoppers, down 2%; Sony.com, with 3.8 million, up 21%; CompUSA, 3.64 million, up 39%; OSTG, 3.28 million, up 9%; Radio Shack, 3.17 million, up 15%; and TigerDirect.com, 2.76 million, up 30%.

Ranked by the average amount of time visitors spent on each site, the winner was instantservice.com at 34 minutes, 41 seconds. Nielsen cautions, however, that the sample for that site was small. Samples were large enough for Nielsen to express confidence in the averages for all of the other sites in the rankings. Among them, TigerDirect.com placed second with an average visit of 16 minutes and 6 seconds; followed by CDW, 15 minutes, 58 seconds; eBay Electronics, 13 minutes, 45 seconds; BestBuy.com, 12 minutes, 7 seconds; CircuitCity.com, 10 minutes, 57 seconds; ZipZoomFly.com, 10 minutes, 25 seconds; eBay Computers, 10 minutes, 20 seconds; ecost.com, 10 minutes, 13 seconds; Cruchfield.com, 9 minutes, 7 seconds.
