Internet-based photograph publishing and supply company PhotoWorks Inc. has launched a social networking forum for digital photography fans. New Photo Communities enable members to share photos and advice across multiple categories.
“From Day One, PhotoWorks has been about giving people the opportunity to celebrate and share their passions through digital photography,” says president and CEO Andy Wood. “With the launch of Photo Communities, we’re giving people even more ways to indulge those passions by connecting them with others who share those interests. PhotoWorks is the only place where photographers can share and store their photos, give and receive photo-taking advice with other members, and even sell their photos and photo products. It’s truly a one-stop shop for people’s photo needs.”
The new social networking feature offers opportunities for shutterbugs to highlight photos and photo products they are selling through their My Storefront retail pages. My Storefront -- a new feature that lets all PhotoWorks users become sellers -- works with Photo Communities to provide marketing opportunities for both professional and amateur photographers, artists, and designers.
PhotoWorks, No. 491 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, is teaming with Nikon on a promotion coinciding with the communities launch. Nikon will give away 10 D40 digital cameras during October, one to the photographer with the best shot on each of the community pages. Current communities include dogs, weddings, family travel, and collegiate alumni. Others planned for this year: vintage cars, snowboarding and new parents.
Photo entries will be voted on by community members and a panel of PhotoWorks judges then will pick the winner.
