Midwest-based retailer Meijer has chosen Fry Inc. to host the chain’s new e-commerce site. Fry also developed the site’s order management system and call center applications. Meijer operates 181 stores selling groceries, consumer electronics, apparel and more.
Features of the new site include a persistent shopping cart that can be viewed at all time to see running totals without leaving the page. In addition, product previews and recent viewed products can remain in view. AJAX and flash technologies power promotional templates throughout the site, which allows Meijer to manage content and showcase products without requiring shoppers to reload pages.
“The new site delivers an online shopping experience that will surprise and delight our customers, just in time for the holidays,” says Tom Nakfoor, vice president of e-commerce for Meijer. The site also incorporates services and technologies from CommerceHub, Taxware, and CyberSource Corp. as well as Pinnacle Rock Associates, a technology consulting service acquired by Fry earlier this year.
Meijer, headquartered in Michigan, operates stores in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Kentucky. Annual sales at the privately owned Meijer have been estimated at $12.5 billion.
