May 22, 2001 - Milwaukee, Wisconsin - Topical Networks, a Milwaukee based digital music distribution company began its beta test of its Internet based digital music service, ionTunes. With the announcement Monday by Universal Music Group that it would acquire MP3.com, ionTunes remains as a lone site dedicated to helping independent artists distribute their music and turn a profit.

"This move by Universal is a significant change for the online digital music markets," said Matt Mizsewski, CEO of Topical Networks. "With Universal`s acquisition of eMusic.com and now MP3.com they are quickly eating up the competition to build a great delivery vehicle for their own artist`s music. The question now becomes, what about those struggling independent artists?"

The answer is ionTunes. The ionTunes system was developed with the independent artist in mind. "While we have major label content on our site, we choose to use that level of talent to leverage the careers of our independent artists," said Miszewski. "Not only are we not owned by the major recording labels, we are the artist`s answer to them. We can place music from ionTunes artist BCU right next to the new Outkast single. Our artists love the fact that we can offer them that sort of placement and still give them fifty cents on a dollar while everyone else is offering pennies."

The beta test is now underway for artists. The ionTunes interface is friendly, allowing independent artists the ability to upload songs, images, bios, press releases and even build an album for eventual sale online. "The great thing is that we now can offer exactly what MP3.com was offering, but we can give more back to each artist," said Miszewski. "That is supposed to be what this is all about, isn`t it?"

Topical Networks recently entered into an agreement with content delivery veteran Productive Data Corporation. "Coupling Productive Data`s six-plus years of digital content delivery experience with the amazing array of digital music available through ionTunes will create an industry powerhouse," said Robert Grether, President of Productive Data. "We will help Topical Networks deliver their artist`s music to consumers when and how they want it quickly, securely and reliably."

Independent artists are encouraged to sign-up on the site at www.iontunes.com.
