AOL’s inStore traffic lags, but revenue almost keeps up

America Online Inc.’s inStore online shopping destination has hit 95% of its revenue goals since its September launch, although traffic volume has been less than anticipated, says Hope Gurion, director of retail and electronic commerce. She declines to give details.

“In terms of traffic, we’re not where we’d like to be,” Gurion says. Nevertheless, AOL expects a majority of its 48,000 inStore merchants to renew their partnership agreements for another year, she says.

Merchant partners include Nordstrom Inc., Neiman Marcus Group, and Office Depot Inc. AOL’s goal is to get more qualified shoppers by being more selective in its promotions, Gurion says.

AOL limits the number of merchants associated with the site, signing the ones it considers to be the best in each market segment, she says.
