Mercantec and Ambiron release e-commerce solution for securing transactions
Mercantec Inc. and Ambiron yesterday launched PCI SecureSite, an end-to-end e-commerce compliance solution for securing merchant transactions from the web-hosting provider through the shopping cart to the payment gateway. The two companies have submitted an application to Visa USA seeking approval of the product.
Small Internet retailers who adopt the integrated solution will automatically be in compliance with new Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, says Bill Tait, Mercantec chief executive. The payment card standard was developed jointly by MasterCard International, Visa, American Express Co., Diners Club, Discover and JCB. Each card company still maintains its proprietary data security standards.
With PCI SecureSite, the risk of unauthorized access to the cardholder data online retailers process, store and transmit will be reduced along with the risk that retailers might be fined for non-compliance with industry data security standards, Tait says. WebXess will provide the infrastructure that hosts the storefront software application while Mercantec will provide the storefront software application/shopping cart. In addition, Authorize.Net will provide the Internet protocol-based payment gateway and Ambiron will act as qualified security assessor.
Thus far, Mercantec and Ambiron have submitted PCI SecureSite only to Visa, hoping that Visa approval will persuade the other card brands to accept the product as well, Tait says.
