Hypercom`s Dial-to-IP Payment Terminal Converter Certified by Merchant Link

IN-tact Device With the Merchant Link siteNET(R) Internet Gateway Speeds POS Transactions

PHOENIX, Aug 30, 2005 -- Hypercom Corporation (NYSE: HYC) today announced that its IN-tact(TM) 1101 converter device for Internet-enabling legacy Hypercom point-of-sale terminals has been certified for use on the Merchant Link siteNET(R) Internet Gateway. The certification enables merchants with legacy Hypercom(R) equipment to use the IN-tact converter in conjunction with siteNET to securely route credit and debit card transactions over the Internet for faster payment authorizations.

With the IN-tact 1101 converting transaction information to IP packets and Merchant Link passing that data on to the payment processor, merchants have a complete, cost-effective solution for using the Internet to speed payment transactions. Processing customer payments over the Internet also eliminates the expense of using dial-up phone lines for data transmission.

"This certification provides our customers with an easy means of moving from dial-up connectivity to high-speed Internet-based communication without having to replace their entire terminal infrastructure," said O.B. Rawls IV, president, Hypercom North America. "We now have an important new tool that will help us bring our IN-tact converter -- and, by extension, the power of the Internet -- to the millions of legacy Hypercom card payment terminals installed at merchant sites worldwide."

The IN-tact 1101 is a compact hardware device that allows the retailer to connect up to 16 Hypercom T- or ICE(TM)-series terminals to the Internet quickly and easily over a DSL, cable modem or VPN connection. It is suitable for single- or multi-lane environments, can be pre-configured for easy out-of-the-box deployment at each merchant location, and uses 3DES and Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology to encrypt and transmit transactions securely and almost instantaneously. A sister device, the IN-tact 1201, offers the same functionality for any third-party dial terminal or ATM.

Both the IN-tact products also equip resellers, Independent Sales Organizations (ISOs) and/or financial institutions with an array of value-added features. These include the ability to continuously monitor and alert a help desk to any service interruption; easy troubleshooting via SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) and Internet interfaces; and metrics collection that gives an acquirer valuable insight into the transaction patterns of its merchant portfolio.

The Merchant Link siteNET Internet Gateway serves as the gateway between the POS device and the payment processor. It accepts transaction information via an SSL-encrypted connection over the Internet from the merchant location and transmits the data to all major credit card processors and gift card/loyalty card hosts.

"The addition of Hypercom`s IN-tact 1101 to our list of certified dial-to-IP converters gives us access to a huge pool of customers with legacy Hypercom installations," said Chuck Harris, president of Merchant Link, L.L.C. "This is an important expansion of our network and a strong offering for retailers who want to use the Internet to speed transactions at the point of sale."
