Shopping.com launches in France
Comparison shopping site Shopping.com has launched Shopping.com in France at fr.shopping.com. The site will allow shoppers to compare offers across borders, with the site automatically managing currency and language conversions and calculating the cost of shipping. In addition to its U.S. site, Shopping.com already offers a comparison site in the U.K.
French retailers participating in the site include La Redoute, part of the PPR group; electronics specialist Pixmania; Apple computers; and wine merchant Chateauonline. Shopping.com says 20% of offers available to consumers in France are from merchants in foreign countries and it expects that to nearly double by year`s end.
"Pixmania has always been pan-European in scope and focused on offering the most customized environment in each country to its customers," says Ulric Jerome, managing director for France, UK and Scandinavia, Pixmania. "So we are happy to see a large global player, such as Shopping.com, bring to continental Europe a high level of experience in providing accurate and essential information to users."
Shopping.com says international expansion is a critical strategy in its growth plans and that it expects to invest $8-$10 million this year in overseas expansion.
Shopping.com was launched in 2003 as the new brand and corporate identity of Dealtime.com, founded in 1997, and Epinions.com, founded in 1999.
