St. Patrick’s Day creates a 63% jump in traffic to e-greeting card sites


Visits to e-greeting card sites jumped 63% from the prior week during the week ended March 20, driven by online users sending more than 5.1 million St. Patrick’s Day cards, according to Nielsen/NetRatings. The traffic represented 4.6% of all online home users that week. In comparison, the Valentine’s Day holiday week drew 6.2% of all active home web users to e-greetings sites.

Hallmark.com ranked as the fastest growing site in the category, with traffic soaring 119%. Hallmark saw 1.2 million unique visitors during the week, up from 530,000 a week earlier.

JacquieLawson.com, an e-greetings site featuring hand-drawn cards, broke onto the list at No. 4, with a 54% increase to 869,000 unique visitors. Other e-greeting card sites ranked were Egreetings.com, up 75% to 968,000, ranking second; Americangreetings.com, up 72% at 1.3 million, ranking third; 123Greetings.com, up 46% at 520,000, ranking fifth; and Yahoo Greetings, up 36% at 772,000, ranking sixth.
