Patrick Gates takes on new responsibilities at Discovery
Patrick Gates has been promoted to executive vice president and general manager of Discovery Interactive, a new unit of Discovery Commerce that consolidates Discovery’s e-commerce operations with the company’s online content group. Discovery Commerce is the retail and licensing arm of Discovery Communications Inc., the cable TV network.
Kelly Day has been named senior vice president of Discovery Interactive, reporting to Gates.
Discovery Interactive’s mission will be to provide support for network initiatives by creating new, high-quality, web-based products that are relevant and better integrated with network and corporate strategic initiatives, the company says.
“Patrick and Kelly have built an impressive record in making Discoverystore.com a world-class e-commerce site,” said Frank Rosales, president of Discovery Commerce, No. 195 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites. “Now, through Discovery Interactive, they will leverage those skills to create a cohesive online consumer experience across Discovery’s portfolio of web properties; support network initiatives by offering high quality, brand-relevant products and services; and position Discovery as a leader in the online media space.”
