Xaffire releases new web site monitoring software

Xaffire Inc., a developer of web site monitoring programs, has released Xaffire 4.0, software that gives online retailers the ability to capture, store and play back web user sessions in real time. The software was known previously as Xfire.

With Xaffire’s new targeted search and flexible query capabilities, online retailers can better store and segment hits on their site for monitoring, alerting and playback, the company says. Users can see the exact text, images and pages its systems served to end users.

The new software manages user session data through a distributed relational database across multiple appliances. Xaffire 4.0 sets up the database so that storage capacity for the system is not architecturally limited, says CEO David Jilk. “As long as you have enough disk space and enough appliances, you can keep the data as long as you want, and keep all of the sessions.”

By storing every user session, merchants have a visual record of online user interactions which they can use to pinpoint web application errors, improve site usability and retain transaction records.

Xaffire also makes it easier and more powerful for the retailer to search the database as it grows, Jilk says. “One such capability is a kind of free-text search. You can type in keywords and it finds the keywords in the text of the session.”

The upgraded program also includes Hit Filters, a mechanism that organizes web sites by flexible, user-defined criteria and monitors end user behavior and application response. Hit Filters capabilities also allow users to perform queries, including keyword queries, of content that has been captured and stored in the system.

Xaffire 4.0 has expanded its content capture capabilities, and, using proprietary capture agents, can now support the Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS)6 and Sun Java System Web Server 6.1. It will continue to support Apache and Microsoft IIS 5, and any web server via a proxy configuration.

Xaffire 4.0 marks the completion of Xaffire Inc.’s transition from traditional synthetic and infrastructure monitoring to 100% live session capture and instant replay, Jilk says.
