Field’s gets back into the e-commerce game

Marshall Field`s has restored e-commerce capabilities to Fields.com. Fields.com had been powered by Amazon.com Inc. through the e-commerce operation of Target Corp., its former owner. When May Department Stores acquired Field’s last year, it shut down the e-commerce functionality. Under the new ownership, Field’s began selling gift cards online last November. It now offers 15,000 products online, including its Frango candy brand and prom dresses in an interactive feature and offers an online gift registry.

The new site is powered by e-commerce technology from May’s IT department, a spokeswoman says.

The site also includes a credit card center where customers can open an account, view recent transactions and pay bills.

"Fields.com is an important retail channel that we are aggressively developing and it`s one of many vehicles Marshall Field`s uses for selling merchandise, providing enhanced guest services and extending our reach nationwide," said Frank Guzzetta, president and CEO of Marshall Field`s.

Fields.com will also provide information on Marshall Field`s store services, store locations, events and trends. Field’s says it will continue to add products throughout 2005, including in women`s, men`s, beauty, shoes and kids’ categories. Online purchases can be returned to Field’s stores.
