Fry’s Electronics renames Outpost.com
After five years of owning the brand, Fry’s Electronics Inc. is phasing out the moniker Outpost.com.
To get customers used to the new name – Frys.com – the retailer is conducting an online “grand opening” sale. “Fry`s/Outpost.com was the past moniker and now we are having a ‘grand opening” of Frys.com so that we can publicize the fact that customers can shop for most products via our online store,” says a Fry’s spokesman. “We have made the web site more user friendly, easier to navigate and added more images and text descriptions.”
To publicize the change to Frys.com, the company, No. 175 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites, is conducting a national advertising and public relations campaign. The new name was publicized in a series of television ads broadcast during the recent Las Vegas Open golf tournament.
“The ‘grand opening’ is the equivalent of the opening of a store for us,” the spokesman says. “The launch is for customers that were not previously aware that they could shop Frys.com without having to go to a physical store.”
Outpost.com merged with Fry’s Electronic in November of 2001.
