Nike names a new global vice president of e-commerce

Now that Nike Inc. has launched a new redesign of its e-commerce site the company is also naming a new executive to run it.

Nike, No. 187 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites, has hired Chris Shimojima for the newly created position of vice president, global e-commerce. Shimojima most recently was vice president and general manager of Sears Direct, No. 7 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites. He will report directly to Nike president and CEO Mark Parker. Shimojima will be responsible for driving an integrated global e-commerce strategy for the Nike brand and Nike subsidiaries, including Converse and Cole Haan.

“Our e-commerce sites represent an incredible opportunity, a way to build deeper consumer connections and support the overall growth of Nike and our Nike Inc. brand portfolio,” says Parker. “Chris will accelerate our efforts.” Prior to joining Sears in 2002, Shimojima held a number of senior marketing positions for companies such as Prudential Financial, Kozmo.com, AT&T Consumer Communication Services and Pepsi-Cola.

At Nike Shimojima will be in charge of the recently redesigned online Nike store. In September, in its first major site redesign since its debut in 1999, Nike.com was re-launched on the Adobe Flash platform with sharply different site display, search and navigation features, Nike says. The biggest change experienced by shoppers on the new site is within the site’s navigation, which is based on a faceted system that lets shoppers view all of the site’s more than 30,000 products after filtering them by categories such as color, price, sport category and product technology, Nike says.
