Q1 web sales at 1-800-Flowers’ rise 23% to $91.6 million

Web sales at 1-800-Flowers.com Inc. rose 23% year-over-year to $91.6 million from $74.5 million in the first quarter ended March 27, the retailer said today. Web sales grew as a percentage of total sales to 58.3% from 55.6%. Total sales grew 17.1% to $157 million and telephone sales increased 3.1% to $52.4 million.

The retailer said added about 800,000 new customers in the quarter, approximately 80,000 more than it gained in the year-ago quarter. Orders from repeat customers rose to 57.8% of revenue from 56.6% a year ago, it said.

1-800-Flowers.com posted a net loss for the quarter of $2 million, compared to a net loss of $1.9 million in Q1 of last year.
