7-Eleven adds a cash payment to in-store web kiosks
Convenience store chain 7-Eleven is taking the next step in payment options on its Vcom kiosks by adding cash acceptance from consumers who want to buy merchandise on the web. 7-Eleven and Cyphermint Inc., which provides the infrastructure and systems integration for kiosks, expects to install Vcom devices in 1,000 stores this year and 3,500 stores by the end of 2003.
Cyphermint is using BroadVision’s retail commerce application to provide a web shopping and service environment on the 7-Eleven kiosks. The BroadVision technology will give Vcom kiosk users 24-hour access to make purchases at a variety of approved online merchants, which the companies have not yet named. BroadVision also will provide technology that allows the kiosk to run advertising on the kiosks and on a peripheral marquee screen.
The store expects to give users web access to event and travel ticketing, travel directions and maps as well as online shopping with in-store fulfillment options.
