Labor savings and performance gains were key factors in selecting Web dSignShop
DALLAS, February 23, 2002 — AccessVia®, the leading provider of retail sign printing and multichannel retail display solutions, today announced that SUPERVALU, Inc. (NYSE: SVU) has selected Web dSignShop™ as its in-store printing technology. The application will roll out across its network of corporate-owned stores and be available to the independent retailers it supplies. AccessVia Web dSignShop allows retailers to print promotional signs and shelf-edge labels from a central server using a corporate intranet or the Internet.
Significant labor savings and performance gains were key factors in the decision to use Web dSignShop, which is already successfully deployed at SUPERVALU’s Farm Fresh stores. Web dSignShop’s uniquely lightweight delivery model simplifies deployment and maintenance, and its patent-pending compression technology allows stores to print signs and labels quickly and easily.
"Accurate and timely in-store signage is critical to our success, and we’ve known for some time that deploying via the Web would allow us to meet those business needs," said Earl Toler, General Director of Retail Technologies at SUPERVALU. "To accomplish this we needed to solve the performance concerns of a centrally served print application. The thin client technology that AccessVia brings to the table will allow us to meet our business objectives with the necessary performance to maintain high productivity levels."
Compatibility and extensibility were also important criteria, as SUPERVALU needed to chose a solution that could keep pace with its own growth and accommodate future technology opportunities. Web dSignShop’s flexible architecture delivers seamless integration with SUPERVALU’s many data sources, enterprise back-end and POS systems, existing hardware and software, and the corporate technology portal. In addition, Web dSignShop will communicate with peripherals such as handheld scanners, allowing stores to generate batches of signs simply by scanning bar codes on items in the aisles.
"AccessVia’s innovative technology and business model has fundamentally improved our ability to deliver services and resources to both our corporate and independent stores," said John Eversman, SUPERVALU Vice President for Information Technology. "There’s amazing headroom in their customer-facing publishing expertise and technologies beyond shelf-edge printing."
Dean A. Sleeper, CEO of AccessVia, agrees that Web dSignShop is a groundbreaking solution today and offers continued agility for the future. "SUPERVALU has a number of retail banners and a variety of internal and external customers. We are happy to have been selected for enterprise-wide printing, and we’re honored to be included in far-reaching collaborations on entirely new customer-facing applications with their experienced and talented team," he says.
The AccessVia Print solution includes both Web dSignShop and dSIGN to provide clients with accurate and attractive signs, shelf-edge labels, fact tags, coupons, and more. Web dSignShop is designed for enterprise and affiliated retailers who want to use the Internet, an intranet, or an extranet to publish signs using a Web browser without installing or maintaining in-store software. dSIGN is built for classic client/server implementations and offers advanced product data delivery and unmatched integration with legacy systems. Other solutions include AccessVia M-commerce, AccessVia Kiosk, AccessVia E-commerce, and AccessVia E-mail.
AccessVia customers include Safeway, Target, Walgreens, Staples, Giant Eagle, United Supermarkets, Wild Oats, Wawa, and Canadian Tire.
