Ace plans to expand use of web-based business intelligence system

Co-op Ace Hardware Corp. says it will expand the use of MicroStrategy Inc.’s Business Intelligence Platform from the 1,000 Ace stores using it today to 5,200 stores. Ace says its goal with the MicroStrategy system is to enhance sales and increase profit margins. Ace says one of the reasons it chose MicroStrategy over competitors is that the system allows it to send reports easily over the web to end users throughout the company.

Ace Hardware uses the MicroStrategy platform to generate business reports against a one-terabyte NCR Teradata data warehouse.

“One of the reasons we chose MicroStrategy is the remarkable ease with which we can deploy reports via the web to thousands of end users across our company,” said Brian Smetana, senior business analyst at Ace Hardware. “We have also noticed how quickly we are changing corporate culture to rely on point-of-sale data and make more informed business decisions. MicroStrategy software derives insight from our data warehouse that allows Ace to fine-tune store operations and sales across the board.”

Ace Hardware is using the MicroStrategy platform for marketing analysis, customer loyalty, retail pricing, category management, merchandising, inventory, wholesale pricing and stores applications. A variety of Ace Hardware employees use the technology to perform targeted promotions to loyal customers, determine optimal product mixes for different types of stores, and suggest best-of-retail pricing to Ace Hardware stores that are designed to increase profit margins.
