Retailers share in loyalty traffic through American Express’s Wish List

American Express Co. and its retail partners are driving traffic to an American Express WishList site with promotions ranging from a price discount at Williams-Sonoma to a chance to buy a $14,500 Kawasaki motorcycle at 10% of the cost.

American Express is offering its two-week spring WishList with partners including Sony Corp., Panasonic, Jonathan Adler, KitchenAid and Williams-Sonoma, each of which participated in an earlier WishList promotion. Late last year, a month-long WishList promotion generated more than 7 million visits and more than 1.5 billion impressions, American Express said.

Fran Greenman, manager of historical dolls at American Girl Inc., said American Girl’s participation in an American Express WishList program in the 2004 holiday shopping season helped her company broaden its market reach. “We had a very good year last year, and American Express helped to promote our product to customers we otherwise would not have reached,” she tells InternetRetailer.com. Middleton,WI-based American Girl specializes in selling educational sets of dolls and complementary books.

The spring WishList promotion, which will run May 10 through May 23 at MyLifeMyCard.com/WishList, will offer products with a combined value of more than $3 million, American Express said. Special offers like the Kawasaki motorcycle will be available in limited quantities and only at certain times, but card holders can opt-in to receiving e-mail alerts telling them when the products would be available.

"Panasonic prides itself on developing and embracing new technology, and this innovative program is an ideal fit for our products," said Jim Kiczek, national marketing manager for Panasonic Home Audio.
