webMethods and Verisign ALLIANCE provides RFID Customers ENHANCED Connectivity to EPC Network
webMethods and VeriSign Work Together to Market Network Services for RFID
FAIRFAX, Va. - June 21, 2004 - webMethods, Inc. (Nasdaq: WEBM), the
industry`s first Web services infrastructure company, today announced that
the webMethods RFID Starter Pack will enable direct connectivity to the EPC
Network so that customers can better access and utilize supply chain data
stored within the EPC Network. VeriSign® and webMethods will work together
to market VeriSign`s EPC Network Services offerings with the webMethods
Enterprise Services Platform(tm) and other webMethods software products to
retailers, distributors, and manufacturers implementing radio frequency
identification (RFID) and electronic product code (EPC) technologies.
"Companies that want to derive value from RFID tagged products need a quick
and efficient means of retrieving and analyzing data that`s stored within
the EPC Network," said Brian Matthews, vice president, Directory Services,
VeriSign. "webMethods provides a vast amount of expertise in providing data
visibility to the systems that companies rely on to run their businesses."
By enabling customers to purchase VeriSign`s EPC Network Services,
webMethods will deliver an enhanced integration to the EPC Network with the
next version of the webMethods RFID Starter Pack. The solution will enable
companies to seamlessly integrate their RFID data with core enterprise
resource planning (ERP) applications, warehouse management systems and
databases in order to automate their supply chain and achieve increased
efficiencies in their business processes.
"Most companies today are struggling with how to gain value from a trading
partner directive to employ RFID technology. The EPC Network represents one
of the core capabilities that will fundamentally change the way information
is shared across the supply and demand chain," said Tom Roberts, vice
president, Industry Solutions, webMethods, Inc. "Together, webMethods and
VeriSign will deliver to companies a mechanism to quickly achieve the supply
chain visibility benefits provided by the EPC Network. The joint effort
between our two companies resolves a number of technical challenges that
virtually every company will face as they implement new EPC technologies for
enabling RFID."
As a founding subscriber to EPCglobal Inc., the organization that develops
and oversees commercial and technical standards for the EPC Network,
webMethods provides support for adoption of the EPC Network and in the
creation of industry standards for RFID technology. VeriSign was selected
by EPCglobal to build and manage the Object Naming Service, one of the core
components of the EPC Network.
