Office Depot launches School.com targeting teachers and students

Office Depot Inc., Delray Beach, FL, today launched School.com, its first web site dedicated to educational supplies. Office Depot’s "5% Back to School" program will be available at School.com as well as at Office Depot stores. Under that program, Office Depot donates 5% of certain purchases in the form of Office Depot gift certificates to a school designated by the customer.

The site offers products in three categories: general school supplies, "DormRoom essentials" such as desks and lamps, and "Techie Tools" such as audio-visual equipment. It offers free delivery for orders of $50 or more.

School.com caters to teachers as well as students, marketing special promotions such as an in-store "Teacher Appreciation Breakfast" at brick-and-mortar locations, where teachers can get price discounts and product demonstrations. The site also offers special purchases, such as packages of 72 No. 2 pencils for $2.99, and promotes several Office Depot education-related initiatives, such as charity programs that provide backpacks and other items to underprivileged children.

Other specialty sites operated by Office Depot are TechDepot.com, which offers computer hardware and software; and JanitationDepot.com, which provides janitorial supplies.
