Search and navigation provider EasyAsk acquired for $9.2 million
Search, navigation and merchandising technology provider EasyAsk has been acquired by Progress Software Corp. in a deal valued at approximately $9.2 million, the companies have announced. Easy Ask, which provides natural language question/answer and e-commerce search technologies, becomes an operating unit of Progressive, which supplies technology to develop, deploy integrate and manage business applications. In the cash transaction, Progress acquired substantially all of the assets of EasyAsk.
The transaction was unanimously approved by the board of directors of EasyAsk and by disinterested directors on Progress’s board – several Progress directors serve on the board of EasyAsk and hold equity interests in EasyAsk.
According to EasyAsk, the acquisition will serve to accelerate the use of natural language search technology in both e-commerce and OEM markets. Retailer clients include Lands’ End, Ann Taylor, and others. “Present and future EasyAsk e-commerce customers will benefit from the substantial resources and financial strength of Progress Software,” according to the company.
With the acquisition, the 2,000-plus members of Progress`s active application partner community now have access to EasyAsk`s natural language ad hoc query technology. Those users have already created some 5,000 business application using Progress technolgy, the company notes.
