Venerable Retailer Uses Leading-Edge Technology
to Improve the Customer Experience
UPPER MARLBORO, MD – June 28, 2004 – After completing a successful pilot, Brooks Brothers has begun the rollout of Nextor® all Java enterprise managed POS system to its 168 stores in the U.S. The application is the product of ADS Retail, a 20-year old store systems veteran.
Brooks Brothers is already seeing benefits from the new system including: currently active promotions are completely automated, eliminating any manual intervention by the associate. The POS does it all, ending the possibility of mistakes and freeing the associate to focus on the customer. The host database is being updated in near real-time so that current sales information is available enterprise-wide for when it is required. Over 65 affiliate programs are functioning. Upon showing an affiliate membership card, the member’s discounts and/or special promotions are automatically calculated by the point of sale system.
Stefano Gaggion, CIO of Brooks Brothers, has had a long-held vision of what his ideal system could accomplish. According to Gaggion, “Through the use of standards such as the ARTS (Association for Retail Technology Standards) data model and XML we can simplify communication among different applications. My goal is to have a single source of information for POS, alterations, catalog, Web, gift registry, credit/debit, shopper loyalty, accounting, and merchandising applications. Nextor is facilitating this and enabling us to provide excellent customer service and maximize per customer revenue.”
From an operational point of view, Brooks Brothers has adopted a touch screen environment and Nextor provides a simple user interface for the sales associate. Screens can be customized for each associate allowing that person to have access only to those functions for which they are authorized. Aaron, the store manager of the Hartford store, provided a very interesting anecdote. He said, “One of my sales associates was out the week that we had our Nextor training. He showed up today to work as he was expected to and, literally, after just five minutes he was using the system and had just completed his first sales transaction. It was that easy.”
At the completion of the Brooks Brothers’ chain wide rollout in late summer, the two companies, RBA and ADS Retail will begin implementing Nextor in the Company’s other stores that include Casual Corner, Petite Sophisticate, August Max Woman, Carrollee Designs, and Vittadini Stores.
