L.L. Bean looks to the web and catalogs for a Canadian expansion
L.L.Bean Inc. is considering a web site and catalog expansion into Canada, the company says. It might eventually open stores there as well. The company has experienced a 30% increase in sales to Canada over the last three years, “enough to spark the company`s interest in exploring new expansion opportunities,” the company said in a statement announcing further expansion in Japan.
L.L. Bean, No. 22 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites, operates seven retail stores and 15 factory outlet stores on the East Coast. It operates 14 stores in Japan with a 15th open next month. Japanese demand for L.L. Bean products is strong enough that the company plans to open four stores a year there.
The company has named Zane Shatzer, former general manager in charge of the Japan expansion, as the new general manager of international new market development.
