HP introduces Internet-based customer service assistance

Hewlett-Packard Co. customer-service agents can now connect to customers` PCs over the Internet to provide personalized advice and assistance while customers watch onscreen.

Using HP Instant Care, consumers can get information ranging from how to set up a home network to learning how to use software applications. They can also watch their screen as specially trained tech consultants take them through the steps to make their PCs run at their best, such as de-fragmenting hard drives.

The new service is available as an addition to SmartFriend by HP, a tech support advice line for consumers, and HP PC Tune-up Service.

The extended service plans are available to customers in and out of warranty and can be purchased at any time. SmartFriend costs $59.99 for 45 minute and $99.99 for 75 minute calling plans, and PC Tune-up costs $99.
