E-retailing sites experience mid-summer traffic boosts
A number of leading e-retailing sites experienced significant jumps in traffic the week ending July 21 from the week before reflecting the start of back-to-school shopping or special sales and offers, Nielsen/NetRatings reports.
Leading the growth was OfficeDepot.com, where traffic was up 120% to 456,000 visitors from 207,000 the week before. Computer site CompUSA.com experienced 58% growth to 224,000 from 142,000. OfficeDepot.com was running a free shipping promotion, Nielsen/NetRatings says, while CompUSA was running shipping and sales promos.
Traffic to Nordstrom.com, third in growth, was up 53% to 253,000 from 165,000, reflecting a major anniversary sale. Other apparel sites grew as well, with traffic to OldNavy.com up 34% to 422,000 from 314,000, to place OldNavy.com number 4 in growth for the week; and 32% at Nike.com, to 189,000 from 143,000, placing Nike number 5.
The remaining sites to round out the top 10 in growth were:
BarnesandNoble.com, up 30% to 1.348 million
Kohls.com, up 27% to 284,000
Macys.com, up 24% to 202,000
Spiegel.com, up 22% to 208,000
CircuitCity.com, up 19% to 435,000.
