Online buying last week exceeded year-ago level by 19%, comScore reports
Online retail buying grew 19% last week over the same week a year ago, comScore MediaMetrix reported today. Retail spending reached $688 million in the week. The spending level was 11% higher than the average for the prior three weeks.
Meanwhile, travel spending online continued its strong growth, up 46% over the same week a year ago, reaching $701 million. Travel spending was 21% higher than the average for the prior three weeks.
The home & garden category continues to be a significant driver of online retail sales, comScore MediaMetrix says, growing 130% in the first quarter vs. Q1 2001 and 78% in the second quarter vs. Q2 2001. Home and garden spending in the second quarter was $442 million.
