Web and catalog sales set the pace at several retailers


Catalog and Internet sales at Urban Outfitters Inc., grew 61% in the second quarter over last year’s Q2, the company reported today, primarily due to strong sales at Urbn.com and a good response to a new Anthropologie catalog, the company reported today. Anthropologie increased catalog circulation to 1.8 million from 1.3 million. Total sales for the quarter grew 26% to $101 million from Q2 01’s $80.4 million. Comparable store sales were up 11%.

Internet and catalog sales grew 40% in the second quarter at Restoration Hardware Inc. vs. last year while total sales increased 12% to $85 million. Comparable store sales were up 8.9%.

Combined Internet and catalog sales at Jos. A. Bank Clothiers Inc. grew 29.7% in the first half while total sales increased 15.1% to $107.63 million from $93.51 million a year ago, the company reported today. Comparable store sales in the first half increased 4.5%.

Combined Internet and catalog sales grew 34.2% in the second quarter while total sales increased 12.5% from the year-ago quarter to $51.87 million. Comparable store sales increased 1.3%.

Combined Internet and catalog sales grew 18.5% in July while total sales grew 17.9% to $13.33 million. Comparable store sales increased 8.6%

The Spiegel Group Inc.’s e-commerce sales grew 1% in July, the company reported today, while total direct sales declined 19% and retail store sales fell 6%.

Total sales reached $139.1 million in July, down 13% from the same period last year. For the 30 weeks ended July 27, total sales declined 16% to $1.210 billion.
