Using deals and giveaways to drive daily visits
One thing that the web allows retailers to do that would be difficult to accomplish offline is to offer a changing series of daily deals. Because there’s little effort involved in visiting a web site every day, daily deals can be more successful online than offline.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc., No. 12 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites, launched major online-only promotions this week with a new deal every day, and now Petco Animal Supplies Inc. is launching online-only daily deal promotions. In addition, TigerDirect.com is launching a sweepstakes with daily winners designed to drive traffic to the site.
Petco.com, No. 170 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites is launching its Deal of the Day campaign for online shoppers today; it will run through Dec. 14. Customers can sign up for a daily e-mail about the offers or log onto the web site after midnight each day to learn about the latest deal.
Petco.com is also offering free shipping on purchases of $60 or more. Online customers can also receive $10 off purchases of $30 or more by using the site`s Google Check-Out option.
TigerDirect.com, a web-only retailer of computers and consumer electronics, has launched an online holiday sweepstakes designed to drive repeat visits to its site. TigerDirect will award 20 Sony PlayStation 3’s, 20 Nintendo Wii’s, and 20 Microsoft Zunes, one a day, over the next 20 days.
The company will post the three daily winners’ names at TigerDirect.com for 24 hours and entrants must visit the web site to see if they have been selected and to claim their prize online.
No purchase is necessary to enter, but every purchase on TigerDirect.com, No. 26 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites, qualifies customers for a chance to win.
