Target chooses Amazon to power all its web sites

Amazon.com Inc. will operate all web sites for the brands owned by Target Corp., Target announced today. Amazon already powers Target’s main site, Target.com. Content on that site will be expanded to feature products from all Target’s brands. Amazon will also power Fields.com and Mervyns.com, which will feature Fields and Mervyn’s merchandise.

The sites will employ Amazon.com’s e-commerce technology platform including personalization, product recommendations, search functionality across all stores, 1-Click shopping, and a single checkout for all stores. In addition to web site technology services, Amazon.com will provide order fulfillment and customer service for Target.com. Target.direct, the electronic retailing and direct marketing division of Target, will continue to manage fulfillment for Fields.com and Mervyns.com.

In addition, the site includes millions of products in an Amazon.com store featuring its full assortment of books, music and movies.

Later this summer, Target.direct will open a Marshall Field`s store at Amazon.com, which will complement the existing online Target store, and include thousands of apparel, home and unique products, including the Frango line of chocolates. Additionally, Target.direct is launching new, national Marshall Field`s Direct catalogs to serve a nationwide audience.
