EDiets.com leads in visits to health, fitness and nutrition sites


With more than 11 million U.S. consumers flocking to health, fitness and nutrition sites during the week ended Jan. 4, eDiets.com led all retail sites in the segment with 1.04 million visitors, followed by WeightWatchers.com with 876,000, and WebMd.com with 853,000, reports Nielsen/NetRatings.

Ranked 4th and 5th in the category were AOL Health, with 713,000 visitors, and Yahoo Health, with 590,000.

Each of the top five sites in health, fitness and nutrition scored sharp increases in visits over the prior week. eDiets rose 119% from 472,000; Weight Watchers rose 97% from 445,000; WebMD, up 63% from 524,000; AOL Health up 59% from 448,000; and Yahoo Health, up 49% from 396,000.

For the week ended Dec. 28, Nielsen reports that traffic to the top five fastest-growing online game sites rose 61% from the prior week, to 2.9 million from 1.8 million. It adds that post-Christmas visitors were largely driven to sites that offer game tips and "cheat codes." The leading site in terms of growth was Cheat Code Central, up 123% to 729,000 visits; Cheat Planet, up 113% to 668,000; Gigex, up 74% to 581,000; UGO Games, up 43% to 760,000, and EA.com, up 42% to 903,000.
