REI says new supply chain system will support store, online customer growth

A new supply chain system that Recreational Equipment Inc. has purchased from Manhattan Associates Inc. will allow REI to fulfill orders to an additional 40 stores as well as to web customers without expanding its 520,000-square-foot distribution center in Sumner, WA, REI says.

REI will use Manhattan Associates’ supply chain execution solution PkMS, a component of the MA Fulfill product, in its distribution center, which handles distribution needs of REI`s 61 retail stores and two online stores. It says the technology will improve order fulfillment. It also will use the transportation logistics component to determine the most efficient and cost effective modes of delivering products.

"We felt strongly that the execution solution`s best-of-breed features and functionality would allow us to meet our growth and IT objectives,” said Clark Koch, vice president of distribution for REI. “Further, REI services both retail and direct-to-consumer industries, and Manhattan Associates has the experience and in-depth knowledge of these markets to continue to solve the challenges that face us now and in the future."
