Web sales drop 10% at Books-A-Million in Q3

E-commerce sales at Books-A-Million Inc. totaled $6.1 million in the third quarter of fiscal 2007, a decrease of 9.6% from web sales of $6.8 million in Q3 of FY 2006. Total sales increased by 3.2% in the third quarter to $110.7 million from $107.3 million in Q3 of fiscal 2006.

For its e-commerce business unit, Books-A-Million, No. 181 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites, posted operating income of $457,000 in Q3 vs. operating income of $478,000 in Q3 of FY 2006.

“We are pleased with our results for the quarter,” says CEO Sandra B. Cochran. "Despite the difficult comparable store sales comparison with last year and the distractions of the political season, we were able to deliver solid results. The fourth quarter best seller lineup is solid, and we are focused on executing our merchandising and marketing plans for the holiday season.”
