7-Eleven tunes into online music market with pre-paid card for RealRhapsody

The online music market continues to build a presence in brick-and-mortar stores, as 7-Eleven Inc. offers pre-paid AT&T Web Cents cards that can be used to purchase digital songs from RealNetworks’ RealRhapsody online music service.

Kevin Cooper, 7-Eleven’s category manager for prepaid services, says the pre-paid cards will support customer demand for digital music throughout the retailer’s nationwide network of more than 5,300 convenience stores. The cards, which retail for $14.95, provide one month of access to RealRhapsody at Real.com/Rhapsody, where users can reach a library of 500,000 songs and burn up to 15 songs per month.

The AT&T Web Cents cards are available at more than 20,000 retail locations throughout the U.S. for making online purchases at entertainment sites including DisneyBlast.com, DisneyToontown.com, GameBlast.com, MobileCraze.com and CBS.Sportsline.com.

Real Rhapsody isn’t the first to offer pre-paid cards in stores. The Napster online music service, a part of Roxio Inc., started offering pre-paid cards last fall through thousands of stores including Radio Shack, Best Buy and Target.
