ADX reports growth in Internet EDI for home improvement retailers
Advanced Data Exchange, which provides data translation and transmission services, is expanding its market among suppliers to retail home improvement companies, including The Home Depot, Ace Hardware Corp. and Lowe’s Companies Inc., as well as other retail markets, ADX says. “We’re seeing a lot of growth among companies especially in the retail hardlines area,” says Andrew T. Duncan, president and CEO.
ADX takes business information in multiple forms, including EDI and XML, translates it into a common form, and transmits the data over the web in a secure transaction.
Duncan attributes the growth partly to the response companies are making to the lead set by Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Sears, Roebuck and Co. in sharing business documents electronically with their suppliers. “This is becoming a standard way of doing business,” Duncan says.
Among subscribers to ADX’s services are Spray Nine, a Johnson, NY-based supplier of cleaning products that is sharing business documents electronically with retailers including Ace Hardware, Canadian Tire, Do-it-Best Corp., Lowe’s and Home Depot. “We’ve seen significant gains in productivity,” says Jack Case, vice president of information technology for Spray Nine. “And because we’re handling the purchase orders through ADX, we no longer have the possibility of losing POs through human error.”
Village Nurseries, a California-based wholesaler of ornamental plants, is executing more than 2,200 transactions per month through the ADX Network, says Scott Miller, Village Nurseries’ MIS/IT manager.
