Amazon.com sells more than 4 million items on peak holiday shopping day
Amazon.com Inc. sold more than 4 million items on Dec. 11, the busiest shopping day of its best ever shopping season, the retailer says. On that day, Amazon’s worldwide fulfillment network shipped more than 3.4 million units, including 100,000 shipments to APO/FPO addresses.
“We are truly grateful to our customers,” says Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO.
Amazon, No. 1 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites, also shipped 99% of orders to more than 200 countries in time to meet holiday deadlines, the retailer says. Amazon’s sites worldwide include Amazon.Co.uk, Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.co.jp, and Amazon.ca.
Among the most popular sellers at Amazon.com were toys, video games and video game hardware, DVDs, and consumer electronics, including Apple iPods, digital cameras and GPS systems, according to the retailer.
