Unicru Further Addresses Employee Turnover with New Assessment

Assessment Identifies Applicants` Job Commitment and Reliable Work Habits, Leading to Better Retention

PORTLAND, Ore.--Aug. 24, 2004--Unicru(R) Inc. announced today an enhancement to its hourly hiring solution with the Unicru Retention Assessment. Built from knowledge obtained from over one million hires at Unicru customers and experience optimizing retention for its over 60 retail brand customers, the personality-based assessment measures the human traits that underlie committed and conscientious behaviors such as career intentions, stress management and work motivation.

"The Retention assessment uniquely combines information about applicants` personality, preferences, job history, career plans, and fit with the job & occupation," said Dr. George Paajanen, Chief Scientist at Unicru. "The performance of this assessment is further enhanced when integrated with Unicru`s unique technology for ongoing performance validation and optimization."

The Unicru Retention Assessment is an effective screening tool to improve general retention, reduce early job abandonment, and increase training and probation completion. In addition, it also measures the personality traits that control impulsive and irresponsible behaviors, those that often result in either voluntary or involuntary termination. Applicants who score well on this personality assessment are more likely to maintain good attendance, pay attention and exhibit dependable work habits, as well as stay on the job longer. Those with lower scores withdraw from the job, both mentally and physically.

"Turnover was a big problem for us," says Beth Baumgartner, manager of human resources at Spartan Stores. "That was probably our number-one issue when we first spoke to Unicru. With the help of their system we`re seeing our numbers in this area improve significantly, as well as our bottom line."

Employee turnover for all U.S. businesses has soared to the highest levels of the decade, according to a recent Bureau of National Affairs report. The U.S. Department of Labor estimated that it costs one-third of a new hire`s annual salary to replace an employee.
