ECampus.com book buyback program getting high marks

E-Campus.com reports a 30% increase in online college textbook buyback and sales activities in the second half of 2006. Web site improvements at eCampus.com, No. 168 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide to Retail Web Sites, resulted in a 30% increase in online college textbook buyback and other transactions from June through December. The retailer pitches itself as an alternative to local college bookstores and features a direct textbook buyback option as well as a forum, titled The Marketplace, that enables students around the country to conduct textbook transactions.

ECampus.com’s buyback program lets students choose between in-store credit and a check for their books. Web site enhancements ensure either option is processed within 48 hours of receipt of the books in the company’s distribution center. The Marketplace enables students to set their own prices and get national exposure to potential buyers.

Company executives attribute the online sales increase to the new services. For example, eCampus.com provides users a link to a postage-paid mailing label to assist in the shipping process.
