VICINITY CORPORATION APPOINTS STEVEN WEINSTEIN AS CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER
SUNNYVALE, Calif. - June 19, 2002 - Vicinity Corporation (Nasdaq: VCNT), the
leading provider of Web, wireless and speech-based enterprise location-based
services, today named Steven Weinstein as chief technology officer.
Weinstein, with more than 25 years of experience at many leading technology
companies, will be responsible for determining the technology strategy and
expanding the core intellectual property of the company.
“Steven has extensive experience at planning and developing successful new
products and services and providing strategic direction,” said Chuck Berger,
president and CEO of Vicinity. “He will be a valuable addition to our
executive team, helping to focus our in-house technology efforts as well as
providing technology vision to our corporate development activities.”
Weinstein was most recently the president of Backstage Pass, a business
focused on digital identities and online communities for major music talent.
Prior to that he spent over four years at Liberate Technologies, joining the
company as a founding executive and chief visionary. While there he played a
pivotal role in managing product development, added a worldwide 24x7 support
staff, and executed strategic acquisitions. From 1993 to 1996, Weinstein was
the studio head/general manager of gaming company Microprose, Inc. (now
Hasbro Interactive), and before that served as the VP of software
engineering at Electronics for Imaging, Inc. Other career experience

“I look forward to applying my years of experience in a variety of core
technology fields to expand the technology vision for the company,” said
Weinstein. “As personal devices and vehicles of all types become
increasingly location aware as a result of more compact and inexpensive GPS
technology, the opportunities for location-based marketing grow
significantly. Expanding Vicinity’s business by extending their technology
