Online retail sales grew 41% for the week ending Sept. 15 over the same week a year earlier week, comScore Media Metrix reported today. Online sales reached $693 million. By comparison, total retail sales for the week were up 9.4% over the year-earlier week, ShopperTrak RCT’s National Retail Sales Estimate reported.
Online travel sales that week were double last year’s, reaching $484 million, not surprising given that the year-ago week included the events of Sept. 11.
Among the standout categories in growth, comScore reported, are health and beauty, up 151% vs. a year ago; consumer electronics, up 49% and computer hardware, up 41%.
