Cokesbury expects new e-learning program to boost sales

Faced with the challenge of selling a widely disparate group of products, Cokesbury has implemented a new e-learning program designed to teach retailing skills for goods ranging from scholarly theology books to custom-fitted ministerial robes to assorted church supplies. It expects the e-learning program to pay for itself in the first year, and significantly boost sales in the second year, Cokesbury tells Internet Retailer.

Cokesbury, the retail division of the United Methodist Publishing House, decided to implement its e-learning program earlier after this year after considering other training options such as a corporate university. But with about employees in 75 retail stores as well as other personnel in its web and catalog operations, "we decided e-learning was the way to go," says Jenny Emerson, Cokesbury`s employee training manager.

Cokesbury is initially using the e-learning program for its store employees, and expects to eventually roll it out to web and catalog retail employees as well as administrative staff at United Methodist Publishing House headquarters in Nashville, TN, Emerson says.
