To help its globally dispersed 1.2 million employees develop personal skills, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is providing them with access to web-based e-learning courses from Thomson NETg. "This is an excellent opportunity for our associates to begin or continue their personal enrichment by utilizing the technology of online education," said Charles Baldwin, vice president of people development for Wal-Mart.
The courses are available through Wal-Mart’s My Education Connection program to both employees and their family members at a tuition discount. They cover topics designed to help them on the job as well as in their personal lives, Wal-Mart says. The topics include management, software application training, goal-setting and personal finance.
Wal-Mart employees and family members access the e-learning courses through a Wal-Mart web portal that links directly to courseware hosted on web servers by Thomson NETg, a unit of The Thomson Corp., a Thomson spokesman says.
