Mail tracking service allows retailers, publishers, banks and others to follow
their mail and view results online
RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif. (September 8, 2004) - Melissa Data, a leading
provider of data quality software and services, today announced a partnership
with Trackmymail.com to offer PLANET CodeT tracking services to volume mailers.
PLANET Codes are bar-coded labels that are scanned by the U.S. Postal Service
as the mail moves through postal delivery points. Melissa Data will offer preprinted
PLANET Code labels in handy TracKitsT provided by Trackmymail.com.
High-volume mailers such as retailers, banks and publishers are relying on PLANET
Code technology to measure the effectiveness of mailing efforts, schedule follow
up mailings, identify delivery problems in specific markets, or coordinate telemarketing
and other media.
"The Trackmymail.com system allows mailers to follow their mail and know when
it has arrived," said Ray Melissa, president of Melissa Data. "When you know
the status of your mail, you can plan events, schedule phone calls or emails,
staff up for response, or just have peace of mind knowing that your mail was
delivered."
Trackmymail.com President Dave Lewis commented on the partnership: "Melissa
Data is an established player in the mailing software industry, and we know they
can offer our service to a market that will see tremendous benefits. Our combined
effort provides Trackmymail.com with an excellent outlet and Melissa Data`s customers
with a valuable service."
How Trackmymail.com works
As a mail piece is sorted on a USPS barcode sorter the sorter also reads the
PLANET code, which identifies the mailer and the mailing. The USPS sends this
scan data to Trackmymail.com where it is posted on the Web in real-time reports
that are easy to access. Mailers can purchase PLANET Codes preprinted on pressure
sensitive labels in various quantities offered in TracKits. The customer then
defines the mailing, and monitors the progress by date, ZIP Code, state, postal
facility, etc. as the mail is being delivered. An estimated in-home projection
date is provided based upon the last scan date by the USPS.
About PLANET Code technology
The PLANET Code is an additional barcode that is part of the Confirm Program
from the U.S. Postal Service. Confirm tracks PLANET Codes every time they pass
through a barcode sorter. The PLANET Code identifies the mailer, and the scanning
data is transmitted to account holders. The Confirm program began as a test in
1998 and became fully operational in 200.
