MARKETMAX MERCHANDISE PLANNING OPTIMIZED FOR SUN MICROSYSTEMS PLATFORM

Benchmark Completed on Sun Platform Highlights the Comprehensiveness, Scalability, and Performance of the Marketmax Software Suite

Wakefield, Mass. -- June 25, 2002 - Marketmax today announced results of a recent scalability and benchmarking test completed with Sun Microsystems, running the Marketmax Integrated Merchandise Planning Solution. The benchmarking was a comprehensive test for scalability, volume and performance in a merchandise planning suite. Test results reveal that Marketmax performed at an optimal level, and position the company as a leader in merchandise planning software.

The benchmarking effort was based on real-life IT and user challenges, and designed to stress the Marketmax software to reflect the largest retailers`peak volume requirements. Based on the tests, Marketmax has proven that it is highly capable of managing large volumes of data utilized in planning and merchandising. The analysis focused on varying groupings of data defined by time/merchandise/location dimensions and critical key metrics used in everyday retail planning, referred to as cells. For example, with 100 users simultaneously working in assortment plans sized up to 40,000 cells, the Marketmax Integrated Merchandise Planning solution can easily scale to process more than 4 million information cells per hour. The software processed critical daily functions in less than one second in tests of different plan sizes.

"We believe this test completed with Sun is the most extensive benchmarking project in our industry to date," said Lori Schafer, president and CEO of Marketmax. "No other retail technology vendor has been able to touch these results, particularly in Assortment Planning, which is extremely memory intensive when hundreds of merchandisers are working on large plans at the same time. Marketmax`s N-tier, Web architecture allows for massive scalability and sets it apart from all other planning systems on the market. Complex planning systems are infinitely more difficult to build and scale than other types of systems such as transaction based, merchandise management systems. Until now, no software vendor has conducted proven planning benchmarks that hold up for large-scale retail environments. Leveraging Sun`s wealth of knowledge to optimize our system for peak performance, the results reflect Marketmax`s unsurpassed scalability and performance in merchandise planning, where several hundred users at a time are often executing plans."

Results provide detailed information on response times for each step of the assortment planning process based on different hardware environments. Information gathered from the test is a valuable tool in helping Marketmax customers select the optimal combination of hardware and software for the best performance, preventing under or over purchasing of hardware.

"The Marketmax benchmark project is one of the most extensive tests for assortment planning we have run at Sun," said Donna Rubin, director of market development industries, Sun Microsystems. "The results support Marketmax`s centralized architecture, and help us predict performance based on Sun hardware. Leveraging our expertise with theirs, Marketmax has demonstrated how to optimize an installation in terms of hardware, connectivity and software components."
