Google’s 2005 revenue rises 92.5% year-over-year to $6 billion

Google’s 2005 revenue rose to 93% year-over-year to $6.1 billion, including a 112% increase in AdWords revenue to $3.4 billion and a 73% increase in its AdSense network programs, Google said. Google’s revenue figures include the amount it shares with advertisers.

"We generated significant revenue growth in our core search and advertising business, driven by continued strength in traffic and monetization,” said Google CEO Eric Schmidt. “We will continue to invest significantly as we develop innovative new products and as we extend our core technologies to new user access points and to different channels."

Net income for the year rose 267% to $1.465 billion from $399 million in 2004, the company said.

Google’s share of Internet searches reached 46.3% last November, or 2.4 billion searches, up from 45.7% in June 2005, according to Nielsen/NetRatings Inc. Its total impressions of sponsored search links reached 16.5 billion last December, up 12% from 14.7 billion in September, Nielsen said.

“We continue to believe that Google will gain share in the rapidly growing search market,” market researchers SG Cowen & Co. said in a report today.
