Best Buy’s Future Shop rolls out Internet kiosks across Canada

Future Shop, the Canada-wide consumer electronics retail chain of Best Buy Co. Inc., is rolling out Internet kiosks throughout its 178 stores. Future Shop said it plans to place two kiosks in each store to enable shoppers to research products and make purchases online at FutureShop.ca. As of this week, it had installed 45 kiosks.

Future Shop President and COO Kevin Layden said the kiosks are a major component of the retailer's strategy of providing consumers with the convenience of having multiple means of making purchases. The retailer is implementing the program though a cost- and revenue-sharing agreement with kiosk provider Info Touch Technologies Corp.

The two companies said they expect to realize "substantial e-commerce and advertising opportunities" through Surfnet Premiere, Info Touch’s Internet access software platform. Manufacturers will be offered opportunities to sponsor kiosks with promotions of their products.
