Online sales continue their weekly upward trend, comScore reports
Online retail sales were up 41% for the week that ended Sept. 29 vs. the same week a year earlier, reaching $810 million, comScore Networks Inc.’s Media Metrix division reported today. By comparison, total retail sales grew 2.6% for the week vs. the year-earlier week, reports the ShopperTrak RCT National Retail Sales Estimate.
Online sales grew 15% from the prior week’s $704 million, while total retail sales declined 0.7%, according to the ShopperTrak survey.
Online travel purchases grew 53% for the week vs. a year earlier to $613 million, comScore says.
Merchandise categories that posted significant growth the week ending Sept. 29 included computer hardware, up 113%; flowers and gifts, up 98%; and home and garden, up 82%.
