OKLAHOMA CITY July 9, 2002 – Apigent Solutions™, a provider of managed services to the restaurant and convenience store industries, today introduced labor management and energy monitoring solutions built on the company’s flagship ZEOM.net enterprise operations information service. Designed by restaurant technology authority Jim Melvin, the solutions monitor and report key performance data in real time so that managers can immediately adjust to changing conditions, resulting in significant savings for the business. Apigent’s Labor Management Solution integrates with existing time and attendance and point-of-sale systems and reports the data as labor-to-sales ratios, overtime reports, labor usage comparisons, and minor violations. Alerts are generated to notify on-site management of scheduling and staffing problems. “As any good operator knows, the goal isn’t getting labor cheap—it’s getting labor right,” says Melvin. “Real-time access to sales figures and labor costs helps managers staff at optimum levels—high enough to maintain customer satisfaction without overstaffing.”

The Energy Monitoring Solution uses data from utility meter, temperature and contact sensors to report actual usage, including peak demand load, and highlight inefficiencies such as poorly performing appliances and improperly set temperatures. “Running a restaurant is energy-intensive,” Melvin says, “but there are opportunities to cut costs. Even simple things like turning off unnecessary lights or closing a freezer door that’s ajar can add up.”

The Labor Management and Energy Monitoring Solutions are built on Apigent’s ZEOM.net, an Internet-based application that converts raw restaurant data from devices such as point-of-sale systems, speed-of-service timers, temperature and humidity sensors, and video into meaningful real-time information.
