Hypercom Introduces Payment Industry`s First Suite of Internet Hosted POS Terminal Applications

epicDirect Lowers Implementation Costs, Speeds Time to Market for Independent Sales Organizations, Processors and VARs

PHOENIX, Jul 11, 2002 -- Hypercom Corp. (NYSE:HYC) today introduced epicDirect, the payment industry`s first comprehensive suite of Internet hosted applications for point-of-sale terminals.

Accessed from a PC and a standard browser, epicDirect(TM) gives processors, Independent Sales Organizations (ISOs) and Value-Added Resellers (VARs) everything needed to manage a base of card payment terminals and merchants, including the most complete and up-to-date set of applications in the industry. epicDirect is available immediately.

Fortifying its pioneering use of the Application Service Provider (ASP) model popularized by IBM, Sun, Oracle and other computer industry leaders, Hypercom`s new epicDirect solution provides hosting services for all back-office systems.

The ASP business model gets customers to market immediately and replaces upfront development costs and ongoing support expenses with a low monthly service fee. Typically, fees range from $4 to $30 a month per terminal depending on the mix of services selected.

"epicDirect is the capstone of our epic(TM) Internet strategy. Now our customers can load a Hypercom ICE(TM) terminal, manage their merchant accounts, enable epicServices(TM) and bill directly from this Web-based application with no investment in back-office systems and support," said O.B. Rawls IV, president of Hypercom North America.

"Until now, new applications meant new support system development for our ISO and processor customers. With epicDirect, you get it all at once, ready to sell and use, and with anytime, anywhere Internet access. Our customers can take more control of their accounts, broaden their offering and improve the quality of their service without making a large upfront investment.

"We already have customers using epicDirect, and the response has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic."

Access to epicDirect is secured by RSA(R) SecurID(TM) public key token technology, ensuring the highest levels of security for epicDirect customers and their merchants.

A common entry point called the Control Panel provides a single log-on, single access to all epicServices applications including a new application, iTermMaster, that is an Internet version of Hypercom`s popular TermMaster(R) terminal management suite. iTermMaster provides everything required to quickly and easily set up, operate and manage any Hypercom(R) terminal.

Other epicDirect applications are:
-- myICE -- a new application for use by merchants to view and manage their own information and applications; merchants can add, change or delete receipt or display images and display them on their ICE terminal; retrieve stored receipts; review financial reporting, check e-mail, and track packages; since studies show 70% of small merchants do not have a PC in their store, merchants can access myICE features directly from the ICE terminal as well as from a PC.
-- Financial reporting -- online review of transaction and deposit information enables merchants to manage cash flows more closely.
-- Electronic receipt capture -- a secure back-end receipt storage and online retrieval platform that eliminates the need for merchants to warehouse and manually retrieve paper receipts; an integrated Chargeback Defense Mechanism helps reduce bank chargebacks; saves time and money when resolving customer-disputed transactions.
-- E-mail -- provides e-mail services at the point-of-sale (POS)/point-of-transaction terminal, improving communications with merchants as well as giving them a useful tool for managing their business.
-- ICE-PAC(R) -- a tool for customizing and managing images for on-screen/receipt advertising and receipt printing on the ICE terminals; includes extensive image collections.
-- Package tracking -- setup and track FedEx(R) or UPS(R) shipments through myICE; ideal for merchants that also provide phone order, mail order or Web order.

ISOs or processors can implement a Customer Retention Management (CRM) program by using epicDirect as an all-in-one management and help desk system. The application allows support teams to implement service changes, track history and log all changes made to the merchant information by user ID, providing an audit trail and accountability. With the anytime, anywhere access convenience of Internet delivered services, on-call associates can respond to problems from a PC at home with the same resources they would have at the office.

VARs can use epicDirect to provide support to their base of users and to distribute, test and update their applications.

During the last three years, Hypercom has pioneered the use of the Internet for POS applications, starting with the introduction of the ICE family of card payment terminals. Named for the interactive consumer environment created by its graphics user interface, ICE terminals are ready to connect to and use the Internet.

Complementing these terminals is Hypercom`s epicServices, a family of turnkey Internet-based solutions that maximize the capabilities of every merchant countertop. In addition to epicDirect and application hosting, other turnkey services are training, marketing materials, help desk support, telemarketing, billing services and telecommunications.
